Earning Credit for Military Experience: Process and Result
The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning and the Western Interstate Commission's study on the Prior Learning Assessment Boost (2020) found that service members with prior learning assessment credits had higher completion rates than those without credit for prior learning.
Our institution had already been working on making the process easier for service members. After researching what other institutions were doing, we realized we'd need to come up with our own methodology. This session will show participants how we started, what our policies were, what we needed to change, and how we involved our faculty. In addition, we used a system we'd created to review transfer courses to get the materials out to our faculty. Now our veterans and service members have their credits automatically added to their records if they provide a Joint Services Transcript. Also, anyone who is interested can look up a military experience's credit in our publicly available transfer tool. We continue to work to serve our military students.
