Collaborative Implementation of web based Degree Audit system in a professional school: Processes and Lessons Learned
The use of technology in Strategic Enrollment Management, including degree audit systems, is a tool for addressing transparent progress towards degrees and reducing costs through addressing operational efficiencies (1). As stated by Cascio and Montealegre (2) “technology is not just helping people to do things better and faster but they are enabling profound changes in the ways that work is done in organizations”.
The aim of this work is to present the strategies used during the implementation process of a web-based degree audit system in a professional school. This presentation will discuss collaboration between a professional school and the central University Registrar’s Office to utilize this enterprise system for advising and degree certification including the following: process of moving academic plans to Degree Tracker, benefits, challenges, and future opportunities.
Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with selected key stakeholders to understand their current practices and challenges related to system usability, to understand curriculum requirements and its challenges. Interviews were conducted for the period of 3 years (six semesters). Multiple structured and unstructured meetings were completed with key members of the University Registrar’s Office. Data collected from stakeholders and learned from the University Registrar’s Office were utilized for process implementation. The implementation process began in Fall 2019 and was finalized in Spring 2022.
(NAME OF SCHOOL), primarily offering two year (DEGREE PROGRAMS), in partnership with the central University Registrar Office, the school, has now 21 academic plans and 8 certificate programs successfully programed into a new enterprise system, Degree Tracker.
