The Systemic Enrollment Management Matrix (SEM²) and Student Success Planning (Year-2)
Description
A good story is crafted by care, commitment, and compassion. Anne Arundel Community College exemplifies a compelling story founded upon principles of excellence, inclusive engagement, social justice, innovation, and a commitment to build opportunities for all. Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) is a premier learning community that transforms lives to create an engaged and inclusive society. To this end, The Systemic Enrollment Management Matrix (SEM²) became another chapter of the storied journey called AACC.
The SEM² epistemology emerged from the work of Dolence (2014) Strategic Enrollment Management Matrix. The Strategic Enrollment Management Matrix is a powerful tool in the Academic Strategic Enrollment Management toolbox. The Strategic Enrollment Management method derives its origin from the Cross-Impact Analysis approach developed by Gordon and Helmer (1966). The Strategic Enrollment Management Matrix provides a comprehensive framework process intended to develop and evaluate strategies, capacities, and systemic operational initiatives (Dolence, 2014).
The SEM² initiative is a process that develops strategies, tactics, goals, and objectives designed to impact access, transfer, and completion (graduation) college-wide. The SEM² core philosophy is to cultivate authentic engagements, intentional conversations, and transparent purposes by allowing participants to responsively share their experiences, thoughts, and insights concerning critical learning centered questions. The SEM² framework encourages enrollment planning participants to examine their storied past, present circumstance, and future journey aligned with the seven strategic enrollment management dimensions (strategy, academic, recruitment, retention, operations, policy, and analytics). SEM² charts the enrollment planning process around sincere relationships built upon a shared purpose. In general, the SEM² process encourages planners to explore their own change theory, wisdom, and story.
The purpose of this presentation is to share, explore, and discuss essential concepts, protocols, and lessons learned concerning the usage and implementation (year two) of the SEM² model. Session participants will survey the following: (1) SEM² logic model, (2) enrollment triangulation conceptual framework, (3) enrollment theoretical principles of the three P’s (Programs, People, and Place), (4) SEM² matrix learning points and (5) SEM² results. Overall, participants will understand that the SEM² model is a collaborative process that infuses stakeholder voice (perspectives, values, experiences, and insights) across all consistency groups. It’s an organic model that encompasses various diverse institutional initiatives, programs, committees, and groups under one enrollment management structure.
