Admissions reviews: How a review can help you meet your SEM goals
Description
Have you ever gone through an admissions review? Have you been mandated to initiate the admissions review process? This should not be feared; rather, this is an opportunity to make some changes that will strengthen your office and will set you up to be in a better position to achieve your SEM goals. The session will provide an overview of the review processes at the University of Manitoba and at Capilano University, what lead to them, what was involved in the process, how it aligns with SEM and how the recommendations varied wildly from each other.
We will provide a comparative analysis and perspective on how two institutions went about initiating an admissions review that was mandated from a higher level in response to both an enrolment management need and also a routine review cycle.
Both institutions entered into their review projects with a goal of establishing best practices in some of the following areas: policy, practice, staffing models, technology use, training, communication to ultimately support the institutions SEM priorities. Both reviews set out on a broad range of interviews, research and other engagement activities to ensure an institutional commitment to the outcome and also ensure that the broader enrolment goals were identified, understood and could be incorporated. Although the reviews were very different in focus and the outcomes varied, one key commonality is that the reviews will inform the admissions work of each institution and will assist the institutions in either preparing themselves for a fuller SEM engagement or in meeting their current SEM goals.
