Enabling Transfer Student Success: Institutional Readiness and Shared Responsibility
Description
The current focus of scholars and practitioners regarding transfer success is predominately through the lens of how students themselves can prepare for this academic transition. However, the institutions where these students are applying need to share in the responsibility of transfer success. Since the University of Florida launched a fully online undergraduate degree portfolio in 2014, significant changes have been made to better support transfer students, at every step of the enrollment path. Learn how a Top 10 public institution redesigned its online program’s marketing, recruitment, admissions, student services, advising, and student success/engagement specifically to meet the needs of transfer students. UF Online’s infrastructure, strategies, and initiatives have resulted in the program’s stable year over year enrollment growth, a strong persistence rate for students, and over 1000 graduates since Spring 2014. The presenter will discuss the challenges, share insights, and cite specific examples that can be implemented at other institutions to aid transfer success.
