Virtually yours: How one campus virtually reaches prospective students
Description
All institutions face the challenge of “bringing” their campus to prospective students and families who can’t visit campus or want a different experience than the traditional campus tour. To answer this need, Student Services and Enrollment Management at the University of Oregon partnered with other units on campus and vendors to create a true virtual reality experience in which students can fly through campus and see themselves in various locations.
This virtual experience was made available to admitted students via special Ducks-eye view goggles that were mailed out. These goggles pair with an app available for smartphones through the various app stores. Students were encouraged to download the app to their smartphone to experience our campus virtually in a 360 degree environment.
This session will explore our reasons for using this technology, as well as the development effort behind it. Finally, we’ll look at initial responses from our intended audiences.
