Understanding Refugee Student Journeys & Creating Pathways to Higher Education
With historic levels of global displacement, there is immense need and opportunity to create educational pathways for refugee students. This session will explain the barriers that refugees face in accessing higher education in the US and the potential pathways for institutions to use the F-1 visa or participate in the new university sponsorship (P4 refugee admissions category) to enroll refugee students.
First Learning Outcome: Demonstrate the unique barriers that refugees face in the application and immigration process, as well as the unique assets refugee students bring to campuses.
Second Learning Outcome: Define the legal pathways, F-1 visa and new P4 refugee admissions category, that refugee students can use to access the US higher education.
Third Learning Outcome: Describe & share effective practices to support refugee students in accessing immigration and educational pathways.
