Implementing First-Year Learning Communities to Increase Equity and Retention Outcomes
Presenters will discuss the implementation of first-year learning communities at Weber State University. Discussion will center around logistics of cohort block registration and outcomes achieved through implementing the learning community model. Presenters will use an equity outcomes lens and antiracism framework to share the value of learning communities and positive outcomes for WSU students of color, as well as to identify and eliminate barriers for participation among students of color.
First Learning Outcome: Develop a plan to implement learning communities and cohort practices based on the successful example of Weber State University.
Second Learning Outcome: Understand the positive outcomes achieved by Weber State students participating in first-year learning communities.
Third Learning Outcome: Engage enrollment management best practices, high-impact engagement strategies, and an antiracism framework to positively impact retention and completion for students of color.
