The Data Doesn't Lie: The Road to a Balanced Class Schedule
At UAlbany most faculty wanted to teach mid-day twice a week, causing a majority of classes to be scheduled at the same time. This caused significant scheduling conflicts and student issues. In Fall 2019 we changed our scheduling process and the way we worked with academic departments. We made recommendations to change meeting patterns and began providing more data to illustrate the issues with the schedule. This led to the creation of a dashboard in our Business Intelligence platform for Scheduling.
First Learning Outcome: Recognize the potential problems/pain points caused by condensed scheduling and develop strategies for evaluation.
Second Learning Outcome: Garner buy in and consensus from campus community needed to implement strategies.
Third Learning Outcome: Prepare for and manage obstacles to success.
