San Francisco State University recently made some major improvements to our graduation process, including designing a 100% paperless process, partnering with Advising/Academic Affairs, developing proactive communications to help students finish remaining degree requirements, and quickly awarding degrees. We'd like to share what worked as well as some lessons learned. Over the past couple of years, we made adjustments to the graduation application deadline to ensure we could communicate with students proactively, sending "nudging" messages when they are registering for their final semester, and partnering with advisors who can help guide them to coursework that will get them across the finish line. We implemented some online tools for both students and advisors to use and implemented a batch award process to award degrees more quickly than before. Students and advisors have been thrilled with these improvements!
