Are you interested in learning more about exchanging EDI/XML transcript data with other colleges and universities? Have you wanted to start an electronic data exchange but didn’t know where to begin? If so, then this session is for you!
Electronic data exchange (EDX) standards have existed for over three decades and offer many benefits for institutions of higher education. In 2018, after years of discussions, a group of registrar and admissions staff from the University of Colorado Boulder and other Colorado schools decided to launch a grassroots initiative to implement EDX transcripts at every Colorado institution that wanted it.
With the support of the Colorado Department of Higher Education, the Colorado EDX implementation committee held its first official meeting in late 2018 and soon launched a pilot program. The goal was for participating two-year institutions to be able to successfully send EDI/XML transcript data and for participating four-year institutions to be able to consume it. If the pilot is successful, the committee plans to expand its scope to institutions both inside and outside of Colorado.
The state of Indiana has successfully implemented an exchange of secondary to post-secondary electronic transcript data and has recently decided to implement a process for XML transcript exchange between Indiana’s post-secondary schools.
At this session, representatives from both the state of Colorado and the state of Indiana will discuss how they approached their projects and the lessons they’ve learned so far, including how to build grassroots support and how to use education to allay anxieties and find solutions.
