Student confusion is a regular occurrence around four specific processes at Grand Rapids Community College: Academic Suspension appeals, Financial Aid Suspension appeals, Tuition and Fee Refund appeals, and Late Semester Hardship Withdrawal requests. These processes are owned by four different offices as well: Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Financials, and Student Success and Retention, respectively. These processes merge at many points so we asked the question: How can we make this easier for the student? Within this work, we are also working to improve access. Owners of these processes started meeting in early 2021 to initiate the work on bringing the information to the student in a more effective way. Let me present how this work started and where we ended up, and where we intend to go.

Through collaboration, the first stage of an iterative solution was implemented to help reduce confusion around appeal processes across several offices.
