Description
This panel session will be an overview of AACRAO's latest book: Holistic Admissions: Predicting the Likelihood for Student Success from the author's of the book. As student demographics undergo rapid change, more colleges and universities are looking beyond traditional measures to admit future students. GPA and test scores are no longer the best or only predictors of student success and retention. While there is increased interest in this time of COVID-19 for alternative measures, particularly in order to opt out of using test scores, the use of nonacademic criteria to predict student success has been around for some time. In fact, extensive research has documented the use of nonacademic or noncognitive factors coupled with academic measures as strong student success predictors for the last forty years. The authors will review the research behind, legal support for, and the effective use of noncognitive variables for predicting student success, demonstrated by the case studies of four institutions who have successfully implemented this approach.
