Breaking Down Registration Barriers Through Collaboration
Category
Session
Description
There are many barriers to enrollment and student success. Registration can be one of these barriers, but Loma Linda University looked for ways to provide tools to help students successfully move through the registration process not only their first time, but every time. One of these tools was started by the School of Nursing. They began a new student registration event, at which Student Services offices were present, such as Records, Financial Aid, Advising, etc., to prevent late registration fees that posed barriers to their students. After three years of streamlining the registration event COVID-19 hit, which required this service to change how it operated from in-person to online. This also changed staff needs and resources.
Data were gleaned to determine if these events helped students successfully register without a late fee in subsequent terms. Both quantitative and qualitative data sets were collected to not only review the current process, but determine what next steps are needed to update and improve the event. The results were surprising and will be used to inform future events.
