Dr William Faust

Associate Dean and Registrar at Johns Hopkins Umiversity School of Medicine

Vice President for Information Technology Position Statement

Academic institutions are complex organizations, and the depth and breadth of my professional and educational experience have prepared me to become an effective leader within AACRAO. As a member of my state, regional, and national associations for over 16 years, I have both utilized the resources they provide as a tool for professional development, and have given back by presenting conference sessions, serving on and chairing committees, participating in workgroups, and serving in elected leadership positions. I believe that I am now well prepared to serve on the AACRAO board as the Vice President for Information Technology.

Over the past 35 years, I have worked in higher education as a researcher, faculty member, information technology analyst and registrar.  In each of these roles, I have been able to utilize technology to enhance existing processes and improve outcomes. While I have served most of my professional career at a public institution, my recent transition to a private institution has helped me understand that different approaches to similar problems may lead to a common outcome.  New technologies will allow us to streamline processes, increase staff productivity, and enhance the quality of service provided to learners. With a focus on effectiveness and the establishment of best practices, I am committed to moving not only the association but the profession forward.

The implementation of new technologies in higher education should be thoughtful and deliberate.  While disruption may be an effective way to bring about change in some industries, carefully assessing trends and emerging issues while striving to ensure best practices is often the best approach in academic institutions.  Change should be seen not only as inevitable, but as welcome.

I am a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University, earned my Masters of Arts in Science Teaching from the University of New Orleans, and completed my doctoral studies in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Technical Studies at the University of Alabama. I currently serve as Associate Dean and Registrar at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and previously served as University Registrar and Instructor of Pharmacology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans.
