Session
Description
Easy access to data is critical for the entire SEM process, from recruitment and awarding aid, to shrinking the achievement gaps, but data issues can cause challenges along the way. The Enrollment Research Team at Iowa State University will share about the process of switching from static reports to dynamic dashboards and visualization using Tableau.
Some of the challenges in this process include organizing the data before loading it into Tableau, distributing the data effectively, and creating visually appealing and useful dashboards. Part of the development process has included moving from replicating old reports to strategically developing more comprehensive datasets and dashboards that meet the needs of recruiters, student success staff, colleges, administration, and the SEM process. We will share examples of dashboards used for various purposes, including recruitment, student success, and SEM planning.
This session is not intended to be a Tableau tutorial but to spur thinking toward using a visualization tool in the SEM process.
