Description
Enrollment declines, changing demographics, adjustments in program delivery and offerings, and diminishing revenues from state appropriations taken together can be overwhelming for SEM leaders. Increasing demands to develop new programs, outreach to new markets, find new sources of revenue, and increase retention and graduation rates is our new reality. Amidst all of this, many colleges are also experiencing a transition in leadership, as new Presidents and Vice Presidents are appointed. This is the ultimate challenge for SEM leaders!
In this session, you will learn how Holyoke Community College (annual enrollment 7.000) developed the college's first SEM plan from the ground up, with no strategic plan in place, with transitioning leadership, all while facing the challenges of enrollment declines, changing demographics, and diminished state funding.
In theory, a SEM plan should be guided by the college's strategic plan. However, because the Holyoke Community College leadership team was in transition, there was no active strategic plan in place. This SEM team took on this challenge and really owned the process. And thus, the strong SEM plan developed by the Holyoke Community College SEM team became the foundation of the college's new Strategic Plan.
The presenter will walk you through the development of the SEM team, orientation of the SEM team to SEM principles, the identification of Key Performance Indicators, the deep dive into data, the development of recruitment, enrollment, retention, and graduation goals, the development of performance metrics, the overall timeline, and the rollout of the SEM plan to the campus community.
Finally, the presenter will describe how the SEM plan served as the foundation for the development of the college's Strategic Plan, how the SEM plan has been integrated into the fabric of the operations of the campus community and continues to serve as a guide to enrollment activities across the college.
