What?! The Registrar Is Really Nice? Changing Campus Culture
Category
Session
Description
Frequently the registrar's office is associated with frustration, unhappiness, and questions responded to with a resounding "NO." While there are some situations that will always fall into this category, there are many opportunities to create situations in order to demonstrate the inherent helpfulness in the registrar's office. How can the veil of wrong perceptions be removed to show the true colors of helpfulness and demonstrate that registrar offices are filled with nice and friendly people? Walk with us through a few examples of how the registrar's office can create positive interactions instead of waiting until negative situations land on the desk.
Loma Linda University has found that relationships are the answer. This culture change is being accomplished by adjusting existing positions into liaisons between the registrar’s office and the schools/programs, proactively identifying pain points, and most importantly of all, creating relationships. For example, the simple act of walking by an office to say hello and introduce oneself makes a huge impact. Other ideas, such as posting a photo gallery of pictures, creating communication pathways via email, newsletters, meetings, and trainings, generating and maintaining distribution lists, creating positive interactions by going out to the schools and setting up a table during registration timeframes, and much more have made a huge impact on people’s perception of the registrar’s office over the past year. The perceptions are collected quarterly via a 2-question survey sent to faculty & staff.
