Aligning JD Learning Outcomes with the NextGen Bar Exam

The NextGen Bar Exam, set to debut in July 2026, represents a significant paradigm shift from the traditional bar exam's emphasis on rote memorization. This new exam prioritizes foundational lawyering skills and the ability to apply legal knowledge in practice-oriented, realistic scenarios. This presentation will explore the key differences between the NextGen Bar Exam and its predecessor and provide practical examples for law schools to re-evaluate and align their JD program's learning outcomes and curriculum. We will explore different measures to assess these learning outcomes to ensure our students are prepared not just for the exam but for the demands of modern legal practice.
