Many institutions do not have the support for standalone pre-transfer advising services. Our admissions staff saw a need for access to earlier advising to help students understand the complexities of transferring. By connecting admitted students with advisors in the School of Business after decision notification, rather than making them wait until orientation, students are able to make a more informed decision about accepting their admission. This session will cover the process that was created.

Description
Session Day: Sunday, 7/20/2025
Session Time: 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Learning Outcome 1) By sharing research regarding the importance of pre-transfer advising, attendees will have an understanding of the value of providing opportunities like this for pre-transfer advising. This knowledge can be used to create buy-in from administrators or staff at their own institution.
Learning Outcome 2) Attendees will learn about a partnership created between the Office of Admissions Transfer team and the Wisconsin School of Business pre-transfer advising staff. Using this program as an example, attendees will then be able to consider partnerships that exist or could be developed on their own campus to improve access to pre-transfer advising for prospective and admitted students.
Learning Outcome 3) Attendees will have an opportunity to reflect and share with a partner how they could utilize strategies learned to create a similar process on their own campus. This will allow them to return with some ideas ready to share with colleagues.
