Dr Cassandra Lachica-Chavez
Executive Director of Admissions and Registrar at El Paso Community College
Nominations and Elections Committee Position Statement
In the last 17 years I have had the opportunity to grow and become a better person not just in my personal life, but in my higher education career. I have spent the last two decades rising the ranks from hourly employee to Executive Director. I believe that rising the ranks has allowed me to see the most out of how the higher education community works and how important each and every job is both at the university and community college level.
I currently oversee an office of more than 70 employees at 5 separate campuses and under my portfolio it includes Admissions, Registration, Graduation, Dual Credit, Early College High School, Scheduling and all special projects within the division. This large purview of offices enables me to understand how important communication and contact is for an office of multiple campuses to function as an optimal unit. This experience fits perfectly with the nominations and elections committee. The committee doesn’t have the opportunity to meet with the individuals, non in person communication is vital, as I have to do this with all the other campuses outside of my office. The committee has to constantly remain in non in person communication since it is the only mode to function in this type of environment to complete their end goal as I do as well on a daily basis.
If I were to be elected it would allow me to begin my experience in a role in the organization. I have had former supervisors who have taken leadership roles within the organization and they have shared their experience with me and how much they have gained in their life that I want to experience the same. Now that I have the opportunity within my college to participate in outside organization I am eager to begin. Please see the attached resume for additional details.
