Ms Roslyn Perry
Associate Registrar at The Ohio State University
Nominations and Elections Committee Position Statement
Greetings to the AACRAO Board and All Members,
My name is Roslyn Perry and I am truly humbled to be nominated for the Nominations and Elections Committee. I am very interested in contributing to the selection process of future AACRAO leadership! As a member of the Nominations and Elections Committee, I will work diligently to ensure a strong and diverse slate of candidates be considered for leadership positions. I am an active member of AACRAO, where I serve in leadership positions in the Black Caucus and Mentor Services Committee. As I am very interested in mentorship, I co-presented a session entitled, “Prepping for Promotion, The Journey and Beyond,” with Past AACRAO President Brad Myers, in contribution toward the professional growth and mentorship of AACRAO membership. In addition to my Prepping for Promotion session, I was honored to be asked to sit on a panel, and a roundtable. I am also interested in barriers to access, persistence and completion for underserved populations, and served as an active member of, and yearly presenter, for the Student Access and Equity Committee. At the Annual Meeting, I co-presented an additional session entitled “The Struggle is Real…Streamlining Services for URM Students with a former colleague of mine. I currently serve as Associate Registrar at The Ohio State University, where I oversee a staff of 18, amongst three units, including responsibility for the oversight of commencement processing, athletic eligibility and testing center services for the entire University and outside community. While under my leadership, my units have amassed several awards and recognition, most recently my Degree Audit staff was presented with the Wayne Carlson Friend of ACADAOS Award in recognition of their service to the academic advising community throughout the 2017-2018 academic year.
I am a member of Ohio AACRAO (OACRAO) and previously, I served as the University Registrar at Morehead State University in Kentucky, where I was a member of SACRAO and Kentucky AACRAO (KACRAO). At Morehead State, I was appointed by senior leadership to serve on several committees, including the President’s Diversity Committee and a Professional Learning Community that focused on diversity issues for faculty, staff, and students. Our learning community allowed us to blaze the trail for several initiatives, including the development of a Black Faculty & Staff Association and the creation of a breakout session tailored for underrepresented populations of incoming freshman and transfer students and their families. We wanted them to see our group, feel welcome and empowered by the presence of diverse faculty and staff. While at Morehead State, I developed a mentoring program, Much More 2 Me (MM2M), which was an opportunity for female faculty and staff to mentor a diverse group of young women from enrollment through graduation. That program is still in existence with a new student-led focus! I also served as a mentor for the institution’s DREAMS (Dedicated to Retention, Education and Academic Success at Morehead State) program during my five year tenure there. I am prepared and excited for an opportunity to impact the leadership of AACRAO and I am proud to have been nominated by my peers!
I am thanking you in advance for your consideration of my nomination to the Nominations and Elections Committee.
Sincerely,
Roslyn Perry
