For first generation students, college success is improved by Prior Learning Exams. However, after admission, many from this cohort struggle to belong and can benefit from mentoring. In spite of COVID challenges, UT Dallas has combined these concepts to produce a continual chain of first-generation scholars. The primary focus will be on the Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL)/Mentoring initiative and how that process allows students to bring to the institution knowledge that has been gained.
